Ruined my banking career and resulted in me not being able to bring myself to work in the banking industry again. The good thingsNothing really apart from the fact that I was able to negotiate a salary which was on par with my previous employer.
The challengesThe worst operating systems I have ever had to work with in the banking industry. Loading loan applications, opening accounts, accessing information was a nightmare because the information needed to be input into three or four operating systems instead of being captured on one system. What should have only taken 5 or 10 minutes often took days because the operating platform would often crash and everything had to be compliance checked before you could input any more information. It was so frustrating as setting up accounts or settling loans was a seamless operation in all the other banks that I had worked for. Very little support from other staff who would prefer to spend more time on Facebook when the Manager was out of the office. Atrocious Management that didn't listen, provide leadership and only cared about themselves. I was employed as an Internal Sales Consultant and the role of the External Manager who was also the Branch Manager should have been to introduce me to his clients so that I could build a rapport with them. Well in the two and a half years I worked there he didn't take me out to visit even one of his clients. I couldn't even quote the clients an interest rate on commercial loans or follow up financial information without being cross examined which is ridiciculous as I previously held senior lending positions and had a delegated lending authority at other banks prior to joining Investec.
