Great cause and team with good flexibility, but limited resources and no real room to grow long-term
The good thingsLifeline Direct is a great place to work if you care about making a difference. The people are genuinely lovely and passionate about what they do. The flexibility is excellent, with hybrid working making life much easier, and there’s always something to get involved in. Plus, having a well-known national brand on your CV and getting salary packaging perks are nice extras.
The challengesThere isn’t much room to move up or grow your career internally. Budgets are tight, so sometimes you have to make do without the ideal tools or funding. There can also be some back-and-forth decisions from management that leave everyone wondering what’s happening next. And if you’re hoping for ongoing training or development, there isn’t a lot offered. It’s a great organisation with a big heart, just not the best place if you’re chasing advancement.

Don't work here if you care about your mental health
The good thingsThe friends I made through trauma-bonding, the customers, wonderful volunteers and some supportive shop managers. There is access to an EAP program so employees can get counselling to support them while working at Lifeline Direct.
The challengesI've never known of any (dis)organisation that has such little regard for employee mental health. If you want to feel valued, appreciated and rewarded for hard work (or any work), this is definitely NOT the place for you! HR are useless and fail to protect employees from hostile work environments. I wish I could say they only care about money, but even the highest performing stores and team members are highly criticised. Morale is low. The toxic work culture will break you before you have any chance to break it.

A rewarding community role overshadowed by poor management and lack of support.
The good thingsWhat I liked the most about working at Lifeline Direct was the opportunity to engage with the community. Interacting with customers and working alongside dedicated volunteers was incredibly rewarding. It felt meaningful to be part of an organization that makes a real difference in people's lives.
The challengesLack of support from management and HR made the job difficult. The store manager was uncommunicative and dismissive. HR missed multiple meetings, even regarding mental health. After a supportive area manager left, I felt abandoned and eventually chose to resign.
