Who are your teachers? All of our teachers are subject matter experts with degrees in their fields. Many have doctorate qualifications (PhD’s) in their area of expertise and some are actively researching in their academic discipline. Matrix teachers have HSC exam marking experience and/or extensive experience in writing and marking assessments and exams, and thus they know exactly how to help students maximize marks in school and HSC exams. How are the lessons structured?Matrix Education follows the Board of Studies Syllabus and our teachers train students to understand key concepts behind the theory, as opposed to memorizing information. In addition, students are taught the most effective exam techniques. Through repetition and close monitoring, every student understands and masters all facets of the course content. There is a maximum of 14 students per class. We also run one term ahead of schools, meaning that students cover the syllabus here first so when they learn it in school it’s revision for them and is a lot easier.Source: This is an extract from the company's own website.

What’s it like working at Matrix Education?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at Matrix Education appreciate the friendly and supportive colleagues, as well as the opportunities to earn more and move up the ranks quickly based on performance. The company culture is described as great, with friendly teachers and management. Training and support are provided, with well-structured material and encouragement for development.

However, there are some potential challenges, such as concerns about compensation levels, particularly for tutors and those with more teaching experience. Tutors are expected to complete a significant amount of marking outside of their teaching hours, which can be time-consuming. The corporate environment, with meetings, performance reviews, and HR terminology, may not appeal to everyone. Additionally, evening and weekend work can sometimes restrict options outside of work, impacting work-life balance.

    Lots of late nights marking
The good thingsThe people, including the tutors and receptionists, are generally friendly and the environment is fairly welcoming, in a corporate sort of way. There are a lot of opportunities to earn more money by taking on extra hours or duties, and you can move up the ranks quickly if you get good scores on your WEQ to become a teacher or head tutor etc.
The challengesThe pay is pretty average, with roughly $19 an hour for a beginning tutor. Tutors are expected to do around 3 classes worth of marking each week, which in practice amounts to (paid) homework from your job each week. This is paid at around 30c a page. While head tutors etc. claim that this marking should pay a lot more per hour than the tutoring, unless you are very quick and completely focussed this will likely chew through a lot of your spare time each week. Finally, the environment is a corporate culture, complete with meetings in which you cloak everything in HR terminology and have to teach the other tutors in a weird judgement session, performance reviews based on surveys conducted after each tutoring session etc. This could be a pro for some, but for me it was definitely a con.

    Great
The good thingsCompany culture is great, teachers and management were all friendly and easy to get along with. Support was there when needed if we encountered any issues, albeit the response being a little slow.
The challengesPlatform for voicing opinions wasn't really there, suggestions and feedback were rarely taken into consideration. Not much room to progress
