What’s it like working at Orbit Fitness?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at Orbit Fitness appreciate their friendly and supportive colleagues, with many noting the positive team environment amongst staff members. Working in the fitness industry is seen as a benefit, with employees enjoying the opportunity to help customers achieve their fitness goals and learn about equipment. The on-the-job training and sales training programme are valued, and several employees mention the modern, clean facilities with good amenities.

However, there are some potential challenges, including concerns about upper management practices such as micromanagement and limited ownership presence. Sales targets can be challenging to meet given store foot traffic, and commission structures may not always align with individual effort when corporate teams handle larger sales. Some employees have noted that compensation levels may not fully reflect the physical demands and skills required, particularly for roles involving heavy lifting of equipment weighing up to 200kg. Additionally, some staff have mentioned close monitoring through cameras and oversight systems.

A frustrating experience in a workplace that lacks vision and fails to empower its people
The good thingsThe staff for the most part are friendly
The challengesThe owners and management show limited empathy toward employees and their personal circumstances, focusing heavily on micromanagement and fault-finding rather than supporting growth and development.

Glad I got out and went elsewhere.
The good thingsThe other staff members
The challengesNot a healthy work environment. Staff are very unhappy. Watched on the cameras. Overworked, underpaid. No future planning by management. Owner isnt present, she would rather go to her farm than run the company.

Great fun with great people, highly recommend Orbit Bunbury.
The good thingsThe Bunbury store has a great atmosphere, the manager is excellent and bit of job variety servicing and installing in the south west on top of sales. On the job training, even if you're not into fitness you will pick it up very fast. The Bunbury team have a lot of integrity in terms of sales allocation and putting returning customers sales through the initial team member that inquired for them. Modern tools provided for ease of service and you generally stay pretty fit working this job. Customers are 99% of the time incredibly grateful if you can solve their minor queries and will usually generate repeat sales. Had a blast working here and if my mortgage wasn't bending me over a barrel I would still be there today.
The challengesSales targets very high considering we would get weeks with maybe 5-8 walk in's per day. We would occasionally have to haul out a ton of gear to a home in Margaret River or Collie or something and it wouldn't even be our sale, it would be the online team's but we would have to spend 3 hours off the shop floor when hitting commission is already hard. Working alternating weekends buggers you if you play social sports of have to get to kids footy/softball/dance etc.
