What’s it like working at Subway?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees appreciate the friendly and supportive co-workers at Subway, which creates a welcoming atmosphere and makes shifts more enjoyable. Many staff members find customer interaction engaging and fulfilling, particularly when customers are respectful. The staff discount on food and drinks is valued, and workers note that the role provides good opportunities to develop customer service skills in a straightforward environment.

However, there are some potential challenges to consider. Management practices vary by store, with some employees noting concerns about communication, training, and responsiveness to staff needs. Shifts can be understaffed, particularly during busy periods, creating a fast-paced environment. Customers can occasionally be challenging, requiring staff to maintain professionalism in difficult situations. Some staff have raised concerns about pay rates and conditions, including the absence of penalty rates for Sunday work, and a few employees have noted that promotion opportunities may not always align with experience and performance.

It was great till it wasn't
The good thingsWas great for training, and seemingly everything was going perfectly. An issue arose about 2-4 months after I properly started, very few shifts and then suddenly nothing, no response from managers, still in their system, which is a disapointment
The challengesCommunication is a must; you can't suddenly drop people/have them as a backup and not give a warning. Also found out that some subway stores give their staff a free lunch, they give you about 25% off here

Bottom line, you will be used to the bone and then thrown away when you're not needed anymore.
The good thingsI worked at the UQ Subway so it was nice working and serving other uni students. That is where the positives end.
The challengesPrimarily the workload was placed on a few people that actually did a god job. I worked there for the better part of three years and over that time became the a very relied upon worker. I asked for a promotion multiple times and every time I was told I would be a great fit but they didn't need another assistant manager. Fast froward to a few months before I quit two assistant managers get announced. One was a girl who was hired a few weeks previous and whose nerves affected everyone around her. Another was a close work friend who I TRAINED since they started.
