This qualification is part of the Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package. It reflects the role of personal trainers who have specialised skills to train individual clients, or groups of clients, on a one-on-one or group basis, to improve health-related components of fitness in relatively low risk situations. They will learn to plan, conduct and evaluate exercise training; provide leadership and guidance to clients and other staff; and deal with unpredictable situations.

Institute / teachers did not provide sufficient support to secure practical placement that was a component of the course. It was very challenging for me to find a facility in the industry to do my work experience. I felt it was unfair to expect students to look for and secure practical placement experience on their own. Would be great if institute provided in campus semi-professional work experience similar to the training restaurant in campus for hospitality students, or the massage centre for massage therapist students - both which opened its services to students, staff as well as members of the public.

Student review

Teacher changes every month or so. No communication between admin and department. Old computer software. Only 5 passed the course. No real insite as to current job market or industry standard. After a 3 years, only 1 graduate is still in their fitness job

Learnt so much, teachers were really good and had alot of industry experience which is always good learning from somebody who knows what it is like working in industry.
