I thought the IVD course was a really fun and helped prepare me for my future jobs. Although there was quite a large variety of subjects (ie. some being very different to others). It was a good way to get a feel for different areas of design and identify your strengths.

Course content delivery was okay - I often found large amounts of information presented on slides with little explanation (often making it confusing what is essential to know and what is supplementary). Facilities: better than most however I found it super difficult to find a quiet, sheltered place to study (wifi & power) after week 7 the library is soo busy - often I had to take the 1hr trip home as I couldn’t find a decent place to study that is decent. A culture of first in first served is not okay when it comes to 21st century modern educational institutions. Teaching - I often found it difficult to get extra support from tutors & lecturers as they are always surrounded by many other students seeking help. Only a few good classes actually offered dedicated support sessions (offline/online). Also it was not made clear whether students should seek content outside university to learn or to stick to content offered only. Content was mostly industry relevant however I felt as a Mechatronics student I was not exposed to enough practical projects (having a computer lab to simulate something isn’t the same thing as building an industry ready robot). Assignments: I felt assignments were challenging enough - the university liked to distinguish between group-work and individual work - however this has really raised the bar on individual work as university knows people usually work together anyway - making it extra hard for people who are actually doing it individually. I also found a culture among the academics to make subjects, tests and assignments ‘extra tricky’ as a means to get around academic misconduct - I found this stance to have been either completely overlooked or excessively enforced (making simple things seem difficult- which is not a teacher’s job). Finally I’d like to ad that group projects were by far my greatest disappointment of the course (not due to working with others) but more about how work gets assigned individually. University usually encouraged for group members to work on different parts of a system/robot - meaning some did not get exposure to certain parts of a project, system or component and thus they missed out (e.g. I missed out on doing navigation because I got power). I’d like to elaborate more but overall I’d like to say that the quality of teaching and content delivery I found to be disappointing, and the whole course lacks honest communication between student and the professors/tutors. So much is expected of students while professors talk for an hour then leave and tutors are usually too busy helping other students.

The course has now informed who I am as a person and a professional. However, I do feel like there is a lot of growth needed regarding the flow of the study plan, the individual units included and how the content is taught.
