In two years of study I not only learnt knowledge, but most importantly I learnt how to face difficulties. The University of Western Sydney has been a great learning experience for me.

I found the course beneficial in some components, however being already in the early childhood industry and working as an Early Childhood Teacher waiver, I found the course such as the placement didn’t prepare me or teach me anything I didn’t know already. Some units I found outdated and impractical when it comes to some units and the academics seemed jaded and not interested in teaching unless you were eager to learn. Feedback for assignments seemed impractical especially if you didn’t seem to understand the content a simple “???” Seemed degrading for someone like myself who suffers from a learning disability. Overall the degree does need changes with combining more primary components and practicums in contrast to the early childhood course which is 18 months compared to the six months of the primary degree. The academics need provide more engaging experiences to entice and support learning of all those involved in the degree. The support towards Lanite is also limited, with workshops being limited and expected for those students who do suffer from anxiety towards exams and how to learn new strategies. Especially like myself when I haven’t done a formal maths exam since 2008 when it was my school certificate. Make this a better situation for all students.
