Early Learning Centre Assistant Directors supervise employees of early childhood services and coordinate programs for children to learn and be cared for. They oversee the implementation of early childhood services and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
Tasks and duties
- Supporting the Centre Director in managing the day-to-day operations of an early childhood centre.
- Ensuring quality standards and Work Health & Safety requirements are met.
- Being responsible for the overall management of the centre in the Centre Director’s absence.
- Maintaining administrative procedures including rosters, attendance records, payroll, and payments.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant government regulations.
- Recruiting, coordinating and supervising childcare staff.
- Developing programs to grow the physical, emotional, social and intellectual development of the children.
- Communicating with parents and meeting their needs and expectations.
How to become an Early Learning Centre Assistant Director
To become an Assistant Director of an early childhood centre you usually need a relevant Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification. Although not necessary, some childcare centres may prefer candidates with a higher qualification, such as a bachelor degree.
- 1.Complete a relevant VET qualification, such as a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC50121).
- 2.To open up a broader range of career pathways, you could complete a higher qualification, such as a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood).
- 3.Obtain required certifications including a Working with Children Check and a first aid certificate.
- 4.Gain experience working in a childcare centre. Consider starting off as an Early Childhood Educator.
