What's it like to be a Cafe Allrounder?
Cafe Allrounders serve food and drinks to customers in cafes and kiosks. They support the Cafe Manager by ensuring operations run smoothly, helping wherever required. Tasks and duties
- Preparing and serving food and drinks.
- Taking orders from customers, and advising on daily specials or allergens.
- Operating a point-of-sale terminal and EFTPOS machine.
- Cash handling and banking.
- Clearing up used dishes and cutlery from tables and wiping them down, ready to reset.
- Taking dirty plates and cutlery to the kitchen for washing.
- Washing plates, cutlery and utensils.
- Cleaning coffee grinders, coffee machines, blenders and equipment.
- Refilling drink fridges and snack displays.
- Cleaning and maintaining service area to food safety standards.
How to become a Cafe Allrounder
Cafe Allrounders are not required to hold a qualification, although they may be viewed favourably by employers.
- 1.Find a job as a Kitchenhand and get to know the operations of a cafe. Ask to get experience in the front of the cafe serving customers when you’ve had some time to get to know how the cafe works.
- 2.Consider completing a short course at TAFE in food handling or a Certificate III in Hospitality (SIT30616) to build on your experience.
- 3.You could also train as a Barista to boost your skillset.
