Furniture Removalists move heavy belongings quickly and safely from one place to another. Furniture may be moved between homes, offices and storage facilities, or loaded into vehicles for delivery. Furniture Removalists need strength and stamina, as this kind of work can be taxing physically.
Tasks and duties
- Assessing client needs and planning how the move will unfold.
- Wrapping mattresses, packing boxes and protecting fragile items.
- Loading goods into transport vehicles with regard for their weight and fragility.
- Unloading at the destination.
- Driving vehicles, such as trucks, utes and even forklifts.
- Unpacking boxes and parcels.
- Disposing of rubbish and excess packing material.
- Cash handling and EFTPOS machine operation.
- Recording notes about any breakage or damage.
How to become a Furniture Removalist
No formal qualifications are needed to become a Furniture Removalist, but there are a number of steps you can take to help you gain experience and employment.
- 1.Find a job as a Removals Assistant, and over time and with experience work your way up to becoming a Furniture Removalist.
- 2.Make sure you have the correct licences for the vehicles you’ll need to drive such as a truck licence, if you’ll be driving a vehicle heavier than an unrestricted car licence allows.
- 3.Join the Australian Furniture Removers Association for professional accreditation and news on best practice developments.
