What's it like to be a Market Researcher?
Market Researchers determine the strength of the market for goods and services through analysis of data and information, which they present to clients. The data Market Researchers provide will help client organisations make informed economic, social or political decisions.
Tasks and duties
- Meeting with clients to agree project scope and timeline.
- Writing and managing the distribution of surveys.
- Briefing research teams and managing survey staff.
- Managing project budgets.
- Conducting qualitative, quantitative and ethnographic research, such as surveys, interviews, focus groups and observations.
- Using statistical modelling software.
- Organising, managing and storing data and information.
- Analysing data and interpreting patterns.
- Writing reports and presenting data-driven results.
- Consulting with clients on how to best utilise the findings.
How to become a Market Researcher
To become a Market Researcher you’ll generally need undergraduate qualifications.
- 1.Consider studying a Bachelor of Business, Management, Economics or Commerce with a major in marketing. These courses will take you 3 years to complete full-time.
- 2.Alternatively, consider a Bachelor of Statistics, Psychology, Sociology, Economics, Behavioural Sciences or Computer Science degrees. These are less common pathways, but may help you to specialise in particular industries.
- 3.Consider joining the Australian Market & Social Research Society to keep up with industry trends and developments.
