What's it like to be a Shift Supervisor?
A Shift Supervisor oversees and coordinates the activities of employees during a particular shift or period of time. Usually a Shift Supervisor is the primary contact person for employees.
Tasks and duties
- Assigning duties to employees and ensuring that tasks are being completed in accordance with regulations and guidelines.
- Responding to enquiries, challenges, problems and emergencies during the shift and ensuring that staff and customers are safe and satisfied.
- Undertaking inventories, and ensuring that production goals and/or sales goals are achieved.
How to become a Shift Supervisor
There is no single qualification required to become a Shift Supervisor, however, experience is highly regarded. Shift Supervisors work in a variety of settings including mining, retail, hospitality and logistics.
- 1.Decide which industry you want to work in. Apply for entry-level roles and gain on-the-job experience in order to take on progressively higher duties.
- 2.Find out if there are any equipment, safety or certification requirements for your particular industry.
- 3.Investigate the possibility of completing a TAFE course to build on the knowledge you’ve acquired on the job.
