Good for experience, but heartbreaking to see the decline from Arrival to Discharge due to the care.
The good thingsSeeing the residents when I would come in, learning about their lives and achievements, as well as a few of the staff who genuinely loved what they did.
The challengesWhile there are many wonderful staff members here, the facility staff prioritizes task-timing over the quality of resident life. There is a noticeable lack of resident autonomy; many residents expressed feeling like "farm animals" or "chess pieces" because they are moved without notice or choice in their daily routines. I witnessed frequent neglect where residents' choices, from what they wear to when they go to sleep, were ignored to suit staff schedules (sitting on their phone at the carers station or poorly documenting to stretch time). The morning shifts are often rushed and physically rough, while the evening shifts see residents put to bed early so staff can "finish documentation". It was heart breaking to see residents feeling ignored or misunderstood, particularly when staff assumed cognitive impairment where there was none. I chose to leave because the work culture & values did not support the level of dignity the residents deserve. Again there are still some amazing workers.

The good thingsThe residents. They are the only reason to turn up to each shift.
The challengesToxic!!! Toxic staff and toxic management that don't do anything. They just say they'll try to fix issues but that don't do anything. They wait until you're burnt out and mentally drained and you end up quitting. The bad workers get to stay and the people that actually care for the residents have no choice but to leave. I would never recommend this company to workers or families.

The good thingsI have really enjoyed my time at Arcare. I enjoyed working with the residents and getting to know them, as well as being part of a supportive and friendly team. The staff were welcoming and always willing to help, which made me feel comfortable and confident. I also enjoyed learning new skills and gaining more experience in aged care. Overall, it was a positive experience and I appreciated the opportunity to work in such a caring environment
The challengesI could improve by becoming more confident in taking initiative during shifts and being more proactive in helping the team. I would also like to improve my communication with staff by speaking up more and asking questions when needed. This would help me learn faster and contribute more effectively.

Very challenging working as an Registered Nurse in Age Care
The good thingsThe Registered Nurses are a great team they do everything and more for the residents. The lifestyle staff do an amazing job and they should have applause for what they do for the residents and their families.
The challengesThe care staff are a challenge a lot are very lazy and do not take direction from the RN at all and this is very frustrating while leading a team. Revolving door of management is a challenge and its all for profit over anything else and the residents do suffer. Management do not have the teams back and if the RM does they go very quickly its very hard to grow and feel comfortable when your constantly under pressure to do all the work manage a team who does not listen to you and help your fellow team members. It is great if you want to be here for a year but if you want to grow and have a career here I would recommend looking elsewhere.

The challenges Challenges of Working at Arcare
Working at Arcare comes with its share of difficulties, many of which stem from ongoing structural and management issues that significantly impact day-to-day operations.
One of the most pressing challenges is the consistent understaffing. Staff are routinely expected to perform the duties of two to three people, which leads to physical and emotional burnout, compromising the quality of care provided to residents, and places undue pressure on those working on the floor.
Unfortunately, support from management is minimal to non-existent. workers often feel ignored and undervalued, as leadership does little to step in or provide meaningful assistance during busy or stressful periods. This lack of engagement and accountability from those in managerial roles leads to a workplace culture that can only be described as cancerous.

Modern facilities but challenging teamwork and workload issues
The good thingsWhat I like the most about this place is that the facilities are very new and well-maintained, which creates a comfortable and safe environment for both staff and residents. I’ve also had the chance to meet some kind and supportive colleagues, which makes the work atmosphere more positive and enjoyable.
The challengesWhat I find most challenging is the heavy workload combined with a lack of teamwork. Some staff tend to complain or shift responsibilities rather than support each other, which creates tension and affects the quality of care. In particular, some RNs have been dismissive and rude, often speaking in a bossy tone or avoiding their responsibilities, always rolling the ball back to me.

I’ve worked so hard to get to where I am—from starting as a PCA to becoming an EN. Unfortunately, due to my university commitments, I’m unable to commit to more shifts at the moment. Instead of trying to accommodate my availability, they’ve asked me to go casual so they can hire a permanent staff member—basically a way to get rid of me.

The challengesSenior management who gang up and work against the managers. Total blaming and shaming culture with no trust, even-though circle of trust is the company symbol. Quality team is there to find managers faults and discuss them openly. Then action plan and get rid of problems, then they can appoint new problems.

I truly enjoy working at Arcare North Shore and would have been more than happy to continue working there for the rest of my career if my personal responsibilities allowed it.

Working at Arcare is the happiest I have ever been in my career spanning more than 25 years. They truly live the values from the CEO, Executive managers through all our staff.
The good thingsArcare put our staff first. Without our great team we are unable to deliver the best care possible to our residents. There are staff incentives, one offered by the board and the CEO to each Residence for all their team members each month. We are recognised with amazing Thank You events and vouchers.
The challengesAged Care is a demanding but extremely fullfilling role. We are blessed to be a part of our Senior Australians Lives.

Oh ..... I can do that in one word "AWESOME!"
The good thingsA warm welcome into the workplace. Supportive management who always take the time to check in and see how you are going. Management encourage my involvement and input when looking for ways to improve the processes and procedures used in my role. Great staff incentives such as free food trucks onsite for staff, and gift cards etc making us all feel valued. The thing I enjoy the most when I am at work is listening to all the laughter between my work colleague's, their friendly natures and building friendships with them and the elderly within the facility. It truely is a lovely environment to work in.
The challengesAt times there can be challenges in my role, however the support network is always available to assist me to work through them. :)

I have just transfered to Northshore townsville from Portarlington Victoria. I enjoyed my time at Portarlington however their was a big issue with staff ratios due to sick leave there making the workload very hard for PCAs, Northshore appears to be better staffed at present time during my shifts.
The good thingsSupportive management, team work completed well, Staff seem to support each other in their roles.
The challengesStaff ratios currently on ward of 1/8 however at times unable to refill a shift if someone rings in sick late.

The challengesIts a bit of a commute to get to work for me and traffic is generally not great but Arcare has been really flexible about working from home when I need to.

Happy to come to work every day, love the people I work with.
The good thingsMy immediate team and manager are amazing. Other departments that I work closely with are also very supportive and collaborative. I have worked for Arcare for 4 years in varying roles and have enjoyed it immensely. The company is still growing and is starting to expand it's staff benefits and giving more recognition to individuals. I think when I first joined the company, although it was an enjoyable place to work, the company seemed to still feel like a "family owned company" despite it's 6000-7000 employees but now, although still family owned, they are starting to listen to people and think more like a bigger company.
The challengesThe pay rate is what holds them back. I have seen it personally, when trying to recruit new team members and the pay is simply not enough - or they have let good quality people leave over pay, despite the cost to invest in advertising and training new people. Investing in good people and paying their worth, is something they still need to look at.
