The best job I have ever had. Thankyou Brentwood Geelong.
The good thingsNo workplace is 100% brilliant, there are always going to be pros and cons and Brentwood certainly has some cons but my overall experience at Brentwood was enjoyable and I am very grateful to have been a part of the facility. Brentwood may not have the best rooms, enjoyable food and being situated next to a railway line always baffled me but I always found that management tried their best to assist change for employees and residents when necessary and from the four homes I have now worked in Brentwood has by far been the most caring home. I love that the company sees past the appearance of their carers, nurses, kitchen staff etc, because a good company understands that coloured hair and tattoos do not impact on the individuals caring ability and Bentwood has some of the most amazing people employed there. Every company has politics, someone is always going to have an issue with someone and with over 100 staff at Brentwood, this happens a fair bit but I always felt part of a family with the staff that I work with, and we were united, helping eachother out when needed, reassuring eachother and comfortng/celebrating with eachother. The staff at Brentwood didnt just care for the residents, they cared for eachother and I am thankful of the friends I have made and the experience I gained caring in a large family home.
The challengesThe main things I found challenging was the constant blaming of things on nightshift when nightshift werent able to be at staff meetings to stick up for themselves as the meeting times were always inappropriate. Staff only being informed of complaints against them and not compliments. I felt a little underappreciated at times and being told off of the complimenter that they had written one for me made me a little annoyed like management had kept praise from me. I have no idea how many compliments might have been sent in about me. And lastly I felt I couldn't complain as much about any foul practices as I knew it wouldn't stay annonymous. We always knew who had recieved a compaint, who had sent it, what it was about and what the resuling consequences were. Hopefully Brentwood can fix these but I still stand that Brentwood is a great place to work.
