What’s it like working at Empowering People In Communities?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees consistently praise the workplace culture at EPIC, describing it as positive, inclusive, and supportive. Management is frequently noted as caring and approachable, with staff appreciating that EPIC is a values-led organisation operating with clear principles. The work is considered rewarding and fulfilling, particularly in supporting people with disabilities, and staff value the flexibility offered, including the 9-day fortnight. There are also good opportunities for professional development, with training provided and encouragement to contribute ideas.

However, there are some potential challenges, including inconsistency in management approach across different teams, with varying experiences of support and guidance. The workload can be substantial and challenging to prioritise in this busy organisation. Staff turnover can be high due to the regional location, which sometimes requires existing employees to take on additional responsibilities. Some staff have noted that systems and documentation could be modernised and updated more regularly, and the fast-paced, dynamic environment requires adaptability as client needs and roles evolve.

I am grateful to be a part of such a heart-centred organisation!
The good thingsThe EPIC organisation is a values lead operation, that cares about their staff just as highly as they care about their clients and customers. This is a workplace where you feel heard, supported and cared about, with many perks and incentives and general positive morale and gratitude. The organisation is constantly evolving to "do better", and it is exciting to be a part of.
The challengesLike many workplaces in regional towns, staff turnover can be high - due to the transient nature of the town, rather than the workplace itself.

A challenging and difficult work environment
The good thingsThe 9 day fortnight
The challengesThe management style lacks accountability, with responsibility for issues often being shifted rather than addressed at a leadership level. This creates confusion and frustration for employees. The workplace culture is challenging and, at times, toxic. There appears to be favoritism in hiring and advancement, with personal relationships influencing decisions rather than performance or experience. This impacts team morale and trust. Improvements could be made through stronger leadership accountability, transparent processes, and fair, merit-based hiring practices

We’re always open to confidential conversations and believe concerns are best addressed through open dialogue so they can be properly understood and acted on. We continuously review our practices, leadership approaches, and culture, and constructive feedback plays an important role in that process. Our aim is always to listen, learn, and improve.
