What’s it like working at The Lost Dogs Home?

    AI summary of recent reviews

The Lost Dogs Home offers a rewarding environment where dedicated ground floor staff form strong supportive relationships while making a difference in animals' lives. Employees appreciate the satisfaction of helping animals find forever homes, along with good opportunities for learning and growth across different departments. The organisation also provides valuable staff benefits including vet and food discounts.

However, employees face certain challenges including a notable disconnect between upper management and ground staff regarding operational decisions. The role can be emotionally demanding when dealing with difficult animal welfare situations, and the aging facilities present operational challenges. As a not-for-profit organisation, limited resources can impact various aspects of operations, though there are signs of gradual improvements being made.

    Management is toxic
The good thingsI made amazing friends with ground floor staff Trauma bonded for life
The challengesThis place will DESTROY your mental health, don’t be fooled the animals are NOT priority at all, all staff is treated horrendously by management, favouritism is real the only reason I held on so long and got through it was a few ground floor staff and the animals trying to fight for the care they need and deserve DONT DO IT

Not worth it, management ruin the good that you try to do for the animals
The good thingsThe bonds you make with the animals and coworkers, helping animals get back to their families or find a forever home
The challengesManagement is TERRIBLE, zero respect for anyone who isn't in their upper clique or in management roles. ZERO care for actual animal care or welfare, only want to cover themselves and make money, all animals are just a number and a price tag. Staff cannot even have a say in trying to help animals as anything said that management don't like is shot down or seen as negative, backtalk or trying to be negative and you will be given write ups for trying to speak up for the voiceless.

Animal welfare and Lost Dogs Home should not be in the same sentence, let alone “fulfilling, meaningful work”.
The good thingsThe animals and some staff members that hadn’t had their soul crushed yet.
The challengesArchaic animal husbandry practices, minimal money requested spent on the animals, ground staff are under paid and overworked, departmental prejudicial treatment.
