What’s it like working at Women's Safety Services SA?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees appreciate the good pay at Women's Safety Services SA and find the work meaningful, particularly when working with women and children. Staff value the professional development opportunities, learning about crisis intervention and case management with complex needs clients, as well as the chance to collaborate with other disciplines at the Hub.

However, there are some potential challenges, including a hands-on management style with frequent oversight of case notes and activities, and limited autonomy for staff in making professional decisions without management approval. Employees have noted limited flexibility with work hours, particularly for those with children, and some have found work-life balance challenging due to the demanding nature of the role. Whilst wellbeing initiatives exist, staff suggest that long-term support for managing vicarious trauma could be enhanced. The organisation also experiences high staff turnover.

Very unhappy at this workplace - glad to have left with my mental health intact
The good thingsMinimal enjoyment except for working with the women and children
The challengesLeadership needs a huge overall. Very toxic, micro managing, no flexibility. Staff are not able to make professional decisions about their clients without having to run everything past management. Management do not like to be challenged and feel threatened when there are more experienced staff on board.

Staff tried their best with what they were given, toxic work environment, high staff turnover
The good thingsPay was good, learnt a lot in the role about crisis intervention, case management, and working with client who have complex needs
The challenges- leadership constantly micromanaged and made case managers feel like they were not good enough at their jobs - no understanding when case managers needed extra time or flexibility due to incredibly high risk clients / complex case loads - no flexibility with case managers who had children, but claimed to be a feminist organisation - the micromanagement was worse than anything i have ever experienced - constantly checking to the minute when you last did case notes or h2h entries. - a lot of vicarious trauma that was not cared for by management, despite the org claiming they held wellbeing to high importance - every time management attempted to support staff wellbeing, it was small bandaid solutions. No actual thought out long term plans to support staff who experienced immense amount of trauma on the job. Surprised more work claim covers were not taken out.
