Produce Assistant

Brisbane QLD 4000
Less than 1 year in the role

A good job for kids, but not if you need to pay rent, bills, survive etc. Very corporate version of a supermarket, you are basically a number. And everything is numbers, you carry around a hand-held device that tells you how to do your job. No room for individual thinking. Produce is run by unit numbers, not quality. Experienced fruiterers will not stay long due to frustrating system and inexperienced management

The good things
Staff were nice, company encourages being nice to each other which was......nice
The challenges
Non existent management in Produce department. Expected me to run the show while she sat in the office, or was basically anywhere but Produce. Very low pay. Everyone is part time to ensure lowest pay possible.

I do recommend Woolworths strongly, if you're looking for a part time job with flexible hours

The good things
Very flexible with working hours, especially if you're student or parent
The challenges
Every now and then, You will come across a customer that may verbally disrespect you, but with some practice it will become a normal understanding part of your job

Overall it was a great experience working in Woolworths group and well paid.

The good things
Not too much of working pressure unlike most of the organizations. New technologies to work on.
The challenges
Most of the teams work in isolation so its hard to get everyone aligned to a common goal.

I was managed out of this company due to being different from other employees, I would never recommend working here to anyone.

The good things
My colleagues sometimes.
The challenges
The lack of competent management and being actively targeted.

Woolworths used to be a great place to work. The past 5 years it's become more about ticking boxes for reports than getting on the floor and getting the job done.

The good things
The team you work with
The challenges
Senior Managers with little experience telling a veteran how to do the job. Unless you are driven to climb the ladder they don't want to know you.

A place to start your first job with no expectations for high achievement, in exchange for minimum wage.

The good things
Meet some great people and have good conversations. Easy to find work and multiple avenues for higher employment.
The challenges
Younger employees overworked for their cheaper labour. High stressload in customer liaison especially through Covid panic buying seasons.

I would recommend not working their unless offered full time to start or a higher ranking job

The good things
Being able to work in a team environment.
The challenges
The challenges are that it is almost impossible to advance in the job because if you are not best mate's with management they don't wont you to advance
