- Explore and identify land and property opportunities and determine the most profitable use of properties.
- Purchase properties and liaise with architects, builders and councils regarding design and planning permits.
- Oversee and monitor work being undertaken, and manage the sale or lease of completed properties.
Property Developers may purchase vacant blocks of land to build new dwellings in order to rent or sell them, and they may also subdivide sites.Property development can be a risky undertaking because developers usually finance projects themselves, so they need to highly confident, organised and skilled in all aspects of development.
How to become a Property Developer
A formal qualification isn’t required to become a Property Developer, however a course in real estate or property is recommended to gain a comprehensive understanding of the property development process together with the practical skills required.
- 1.Undertake a qualification in property, real estate or business. This may be a Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice (CPP41419) or a Bachelor of Property and Real Estate.
- 2.Conduct your research, start with a small project and build your capital in order to purchase a property.
- 3.Progressively build up to developing and managing bigger projects. Some property developers further their careers by undertaking postgraduate studies, such as a Master of Property Investment and Development.
