What's it like to be a Salesperson?
A Salesperson is an individual that sells goods, services or products to consumers, retail clients or wholesale customers. Salespeople may work in a variety of environments including retail, technology, real estate, automotive and telecommunications.
Tasks and duties
- Understanding what customers or clients are looking for and liaising with them in order to provide sales-based solutions to their problems or needs.
- Striving to reach established sales targets by explaining and demonstrating the benefits of certain products and services to clients and customers.
- Processing payments, issuing receipts, maintaining records of orders, and providing exceptional customer service by following up with clients after a purchase has been completed.
How to become a Salesperson
Formal qualifications are not required to become a Salesperson, as on-the-job training is usually provided.
- 1.Secure a sales position in an industry you are keen to work in. Most organisations will provide some on-the-job training.
- 2.Qualifications may be required if you wish to work as a salesperson in a specialised industry, such as information technology or the automotive industry. You can undertake a Certificate III in Information Technology (ICT30120) or Certificate III in Automotive Sales (AUR31020) in these specialised industries through TAFE or a Registered Training Organisation.
- 3.Investigate options for specialisation. You may wish to become a Real Estate Salesperson, a Technical Sales Representative or a Marketing Executive.
