lack of professionalism. Seems as the workers are only there to start issues and not there to work.
The good thingsThe start of the shifts and finishes its a good hour.
The challengesbetter support and the workplace was too toxic.

    An absolutely awful warehouse
The good thingsThe pay and the staff
The challengesManagement is low quality, untrained, clueless and emotional. HR is powerless. Director of the warehouse protects his management against complaints. Constant lying. Consistent incorrect pay. Aggressive towards the union and their workers. Unrealistic goals. Favouritism for a handful of workers. Encourages workers to work through lunch. Guilts you for calling in sick. Constant warnings for the smallest things. Will push you out or straight up fire you for having any issues with the management or making complaints.

Loved working with Aldi, my store manager was hands down the best!
The good thingsThe team I personally worked with were amazing and miss them all! The company looked after us well and miss working for Aldi Australia
The challengesManagement working higher up the chain having more time on store visits to understand who’s working for them and making the store work and not work. And how they can help aid store managers who they feel may be missing the mark in a constructive and productive way.

Do not work here. Money side is average. Working at coles is same paybut with benefits of a discount
The good thingsNot really much enjoyment for a workplace. The higher ups are all about profit
The challengesBeing a lower level worker of the store your ideas aren't listened to when suggesting improvements for the company. No real growth like the advertise and when applying for higher positions they will do everything in their power to ensure you don't increase.

A dice-roll. You either put in the effort and like it, or find yourself in a losing situation.
The good thingsYour experience will vary from store to store, it very much depends on the staff you work it. A highly motivated store with a good management team can make it all worth it (in my case, I had that. But I have heard horror stories..) The pay is good. If you're able to handle to pace of work it can be rewarding.
The challengesIts universally known upper management are clueless about what its like to actually work in a store under their "own" expectations. They would fold quicker than most store assistants. It actually is the #1 issue working at aldi. If you're not surrounded with willing staff and a good, supportive management team, its only a matter of time until you're replaced or ROC'd out of your position. Clique's in some stores are very real, and can cost you your job.

    Utterly and completely mentally/emotionally draining.
The good thingsThe pay is competitive with other retailers and grocers but still doesn't justify the work and benchmarks they set.
The challengesThey expect 2 people to run an entire grocery store alone for 3-4 hours with each closing/opening task to be done exceeding standards. If this isnt achieved, they send messages threatening with "20 people have been terminated in the last 2 months". Since i started, we have had 3 different store managers, 3 different AREA Managers, and i have seen 10+ people come and go immediately, mainly due to the fact ALDI expects 1 person to do what it takes 3-4 Coles employees to do, AND in a shorter amount of time. The benchmarks are only rising, making them ridiculously unachievable, and the timeframes are only getting shorter. At Ingle Farm we constantly receive complaints from customers regarding the managers (people who are supposed to represent us as a team and set an example). ALDI are ridiculously inconsiderate of staff, the higher management have absolutely no clue how to treat staff and set achievable benchmarks since 90% of them have never worked in store.

Questionable management, not a positive work environment.
The good thingsMet some really great people. Decent hourly rate.
The challengesThis warehouse enforces high efficiency/ KPI's whilst not providing the support or resources to achieve. Management are biased and push their own agenda, they love to give constructive feedback and will never acknowledge your strengths. Very poor communication, low morale as a result. Unsafe work environment due to forklifts and MHE not being suitably maintained, & operators are burnt out from high expectations and staffing issues. Don't get stuck here just because the pay is good, no job is worth more than your wellbeing.

Great team, but unrealistic KPIs and poor management make it a difficult place to work.
The good thingsThe best part of working at Aldi was the people. The team on the floor were easy to get along with and supportive, and they made the shifts more bearable. Working alongside the team was genuinely the only enjoyable part of the job.
The challengesThe KPIs are very unrealistic. Being expected to pick 200 boxes an hour isn’t achievable unless you’re lucky enough to get certain orders, like toilet paper. Long-term workers know when these orders drop and how to time them, which means newer staff don’t really get a fair chance. On top of that, there has been massive staff turnover. Since I started, more than 30 people have been let go in under four months, which makes the workplace feel unstable and stressful. Management also needs to change. The current operations manager is heavily KPI-focused and doesn’t seem concerned about fairness or staff wellbeing. People are singled out and let go for minor issues, while others doing the same thing are ignored. Staff are made to feel guilty or punished for using sick leave or requesting annual leave, even though they are entitled to it, which kills morale and pushes people out.

    Good Staff, Indifferent Management
The good things-Co-workers are great, everyone on a store level looks out for each other -Flexible hours -Decent enough pay
The challenges-Upper management disregards the needs of employees on a store level -Strict time frames for physically demanding work, threatened with termination if you off by a few minuets -Unspoken rule for you put your own safety at risk to prevent theft despite what they say is in their own 'corporate policy'

Misleading and Toxic Culture– Proceed with Caution
The good thingsWork from home arrangement
The challengesALDI was the most disappointing workplace I’ve experienced. The culture is toxic, with bu**ying and antagonising seemingly tolerated. Management often supports this behavior, creating a hostile environment. A major concern is the misleading recruitment process. Roles advertised as permanent are often short-term contracts disguised with a “3-month probation” clause, which has no legal standing in Australia. This clause is used to cycle through employees without offering real job security. In my case, I was told the role was permanent, but it became clear it was a 6-month contract. The same role is repeatedly advertised, raising concerns about transparency and potential misuse of hiring budgets. It appears some managers are trained to exploit this system, with little accountability. My advice: if you’re considering a role at ALDI, don’t immediately reject other offers or cancel interviews. Take a week to assess the environment before committing. Proceed with caution.

The good thingsThe staff were nice
The challengesWorking at Aldi is fast paced and physically demanding. Management can be strict and training is quick too so it can feel overwhelming. at times it can feel like your micro managed which doesn't feel very great.

Worst company I have ever worked for, in my 40 years in the workforce!!!
The good thingsBuilding a repore with the regular customers and bonding with colleagues over the disgusting way Aldi's treats their employees
The challengesThe way we are treated!! Being monitored on camera and being reprimanded for the slightest thing, but very rarely praised. Being expected to act like security guards. Being timed on running load. Constantly being made to work with minimal staff.

    ALDI - Good Different.
The good thingsIn 2022 I applied at ALDI as a Store Assistant in Brisbane and three years later am still working with the company as a Duty Store Manager. I have worked at 4 different ALDI stores; each varying differently due to Management and teams. All stores have a great culture and a welcoming environment. ALDI offers great opportunities to progress in the company internally, and they offer great support to you in these new roles. ALDI provides great training. ALDI pushes you to be the best version of yourself, offering praise and constructive criticism where necessary, helping team members develop professionally. Working at ALDI, you will do a bit of everything. You will have to learn to multitask. You also need to have a great sense of urgency in order to complete tasks given to you in the set time frames. ALDI holds high but achievable expectations for each employee. Overall, ALDI is a great company to work for, you will gain a lot of great experience, however, it is hard but rewarding work
The challengesDespite the workplace typically being great, your experience at ALDI will definitely depend on the team and Management team at the store you work at. If you find that you do not like or are unhappy with the store you work at, I would definitely recommend requesting to transfer stores! Also, definitely look after your body and lift correctly, especially if you get into management, long lasting negative effects will occur otherwise :)

Managers of ALDI in the QLD region are lacking in support
The good thingsWorking at ALDI was depressing
The challengesAt ALDI especially the store I worked at, I worked the same shift more then 3 nights in a row easily. Especially early morning registers. It says ALDI offers a different role everyday, but it really depends on how much they think that they can get out of you or overwork you. Rather then possibly guide you into a better worker for the company safely and for your longevity of work in the future.

Customer Store AssistantWhat can l say. Every minute of your shift is accounted for. Even bathroom breaks. Morning shift - when unloading mixes, you have a minimum of 20 minutes per pallet, regardless of the height. If you work for a high volume store there is no way to complete it.

The good thingsThe people you work with
The challengesNext to no support from higher up, only care about high performance as well as high results, no work life balance at all, Burnout happens more then they care to admit, very minimal praise 95% of the feedback is negative, you are literally just a number they can and will replace you in a heartbeat and the role takes a massive toll on you body

You're just a number, you wont valued and your mental health will suffer.
The good thingsSteady job, good pay
The challengesYou're purely a number at this company. Most of the management have no clue what they are doing and treat their staff disgustingly. Work is piled onto people, until they crack. Staff get absolutely no benefits or incentives. I would not recommend ALDI as an employer to anyone.

Management is a jokeThere’s a reason why their prices are so low. Management exploits staff. Overworked, understaffed and under-appreciated. We’re explicitly told we “need to do the job of 1.5 people”. This means… unrealistic load times, one person managing registers AND 8 self serves on their own, and having to refresh the entire store on strict time limits (solo). We are timed on how fast we run loads. Reprimanded if we do not exceed these unrealistic time frames. Pallets are given to us by the warehouse in completely unacceptable and dangerous conditions. These pallets are way above a safe height and often fall over, sometimes on staff members. I’ve had many close calls and strains trying to unpack these pallets, all while managers are standing around & observing, waiting for the next thing they can pick on. Management is extremely toxic and immature. Too many chefs in the kitchen, always trying to ab*se their power, rather than actually guiding you and trying to improve efficiency. Worksafe and Fair Work class action waiting to happen. Extremely unprofessional and toxic workplace.

Don't ruin your mental health by working here. The money honestly isn't worth the treatment you get.
The good thingsSome of the people that you meet, salary is good but that is how they trap you
The challengesUpper management have no clue, these people who get paid huge amounts of money make decisions that they actually have no idea how it affects things down the line. You are just a number at ALDI now which is extremely hard as it was not like that when I started. They push the good people out as well
