Never work for the ATO. Its like working for Big Brother.
The good thingsThe people and the diversity of the workplace.
The challengesNever work for the ATO. They used to be a very good organisation to work for but in the last one year since changes in upper leadership it has become a nightmare. Their KPIs have been tightened and no matter what you do or how hard you try, you will never achieve the standard they desire of you. Then you go into a weekly meeting with your team leader for 1 hour where you are told all that you did not do right and where you need to improve. If you do not meet their KPIs you will go on a "performance plan" with the aim of "helping you to improve" but in reality there is only one way that plan ends - in mental stress and your resignation. Working for the ATO is like Big Brother of George Orwell's 1984 - they monitor your every move, see what you do on your computer, listen to your customer calls, and worse. There is nothing you do in the place that they do not watch or monitor.

    Great team inflexible manager
The good thingsGreat supportive team, friendly staff, amazing social club
The challengesLeadership- we are supposed to have monthly compass meetings however my supervisor only did one where she said "great work he is a great asset to the team" next meeting 5 months later "I think you should take to your agency about ending your section 26 early" there was no support at a manager level and if I had known my performance was slipping I would have done something about it. Also work hours not flexible and this wasn't mentioned in the job application. I would still work at ATO again overall good culture just bad manager.

Toxic leadership, poor communication, and politics created a disorganized, unhealthy workplace.
The good thingsI enjoyed the challenging technical problems and the opportunity to contribute to nationally significant digital identity work at ATO Digital Identity Team.
The challengesChange of leadership and management
