What’s it like working at National Disability Insurance Agency?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees appreciate their colleagues, who are supportive and passionate about helping participants with disabilities, with many forming strong professional relationships. The flexible work arrangements, including the ability to work from home and adjust hours, are highly valued, along with competitive pay rates that are above most APS areas. Many employees find the work meaningful, particularly when directly helping participants navigate their plans and services.

However, there are some potential challenges, including inconsistent management support, with varying styles and approaches across different teams and areas. Workplace culture experiences can differ, with some employees noting cliques and varying levels of support. Systems and processes are frequently changing, and technology can be outdated, whilst training and onboarding could be more structured to provide better foundational support. Workload expectations can be high, particularly for planning roles, with pressure to meet KPIs. Frequent changes in executive leadership and priorities, along with unclear role expectations in some positions, can create uncertainty.

Highly stressful role with little support from management
The good thingsMade some friends and gained experience for roles outside the agency
The challengesPlanning is a highly stressful role and in my experience management support was often inadequate. Staff were expected to manage difficult and sometimes unsafe situations without consistent backing, while access to support or flexibility varied depending on the manager. Management need better training and accountability in supporting frontline planners. I found the culture in my area unsupportive and damaging, and I left feeling deeply undervalued.
