What’s it like working at Whitehorse City Council?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at Whitehorse City Council appreciate the flexible work arrangements, supportive organisational culture focused on community service, opportunities for career growth and development, and a good work-life balance with reasonable workloads.

However, there are some potential areas for improvement, such as change management processes and ensuring management has the necessary expertise to drive organisational change effectively. Additionally, decision-making processes could be more streamlined, with concerns about too many stakeholders being involved and a lack of respect for professional advice. Employees have also noted siloed working practices with limited cross-team collaboration and information sharing. Finally, managing community expectations can be challenging at times, with high demands from residents that may not always align with available resources.

Very tough gig, found myself questioning my work ethics as they were not organized, didn't want to listen and took too much time to make decisions. Pigeonholed, no room for movement and didn't renew contract as became quite depressed.
The good thingsFlexible with start and finish times, slow paced leaves time to get you work completed, Hybrid policy and workers in team.
The challengesNot a great culture, people don't want to change or can't change as management don't have the expertise too.

Good people doing good things for the community.
The good thingsI was able to perform meaningful work. Whitehorse has a great organisational culture that can be boiled down to good people doing good things for the community.
The challengesEncountered a few earlier in my stint, however a recent org review and subsequent change in leadership has Whitehorse on a great path.

    Great place to work!
The good thingsI can honestly say I've never worked anywhere that had better people or a better culture than here. The environment from day one has always been very friendly and accepting, and I've been lucky to work with a bunch of people who are all striving to do the best they can for the community.
The challengesGetting authority to make decisions was at times challenging - too many cooks in the kitchen at times.
