What's it like to be a Personal Assistant?
Personal Assistants (also called PAs) provide one-to-one administrative and secretarial support to senior staff, such as a manager or a member of the executive group.Did you find this video helpful?
Tasks and duties
- Coordinating the day-to-day activities of the manager, such as managing schedules and appointments, monitoring and responding to emails.
- Preparing and organising travel and itineraries, including booking flights, accommodation and scheduling appointments.
- Planning meetings, sending invitations, drafting presentations and taking notes or minutes during meetings.
How to become a Personal Assistant
While there are no formal education requirements for Personal Assistants, many employers value vocational qualifications and/or on-the-job experience.
- 1.Complete a qualification in business skills, such as Certificate III in Business Administration (BSB30120) or Certificate IV in Business Administration (BSB40120). These courses focus on computer literacy skills and how to manage complex issues in the workplace.
- 2.If you are looking to advance your career, explore further opportunities for study, such as a Diploma of Business (Operations) (BSB50120) to prepare you for more senior PA roles.
