I need advice on how to build a good professional network and my current network isn't very helpful or active. How can I expand my network in other directions, so my connections are useful for referrals? Has anyone had a good experience with professional networking events and what were they?

Not sure if it's the same with what you do but I've found some really great professional Facebook groups where people can shared advice, tips and support. Like most things you only get out what you put in but worth a look?

Try hitting up industry events, social groups, or Slack communities, and focus on building real connections. Even quick chats with people you respect can lead to referrals.

Good networkers are always 'on' I reckon so at work over time if they get 1 new professional friend every few months, after 10 years they've got a big network. Personally a lot of my networks have started outside of work in the hobbies and sports I like to do.
