Over qualified... is that an issue for anyone? Im finding myself getting no response from agencies and companies. Im full time in the Public Sector but looking for something small and casual right now leading into christmas just for extra cash and pocket money for the festive season. Im even looking at like PM Warehouse work or even casual night fill at a woolworths or something until I get my security licence and do that casually.

Hi Gerick, your willingness to take on casual work already shows a great attitude. Hope something comes through soon. you’ve got the right mindset! Good luck!

I feel you on this post.
I have qualifications but in my early days of working I did a lot of factory work. I need a break from the heaviness of my previous jobs (comm services) and I’ve been applying for such roles (factory work) , however, I feel like whenever I apply for these roles they look at my resume and completely disregard me.
I have qualifications in HR and I understand from a training perspective that training employees and inductions etc costs time and $$, I put it down to that.

Yeah I have certifications and even woolies didn’t wanna hire me lol! I like to think that it’s the universe telling me I shouldn’t “lower” myself (not that those jobs are lesser than others) to jobs that aren’t meant for me. I’ve gotten a few interviews of late for jobs that actually interest me and that I’m qualified specifically for! Just keep trying. I’ve been applying for everything for a year and only now have I started to get recognised. It takes time 🩷

It can definitely be a thing Gerick...And a pretty frustrating one at that. 😕 (Don't quote me) but I was once told that being thought of as overqualified can come down to the employer worrying the job won't be enough for you and you mightn't stay around long. Do you try to cover over off why you're interested in the job when you apply? Only other thought is to maybe just include the skills that are relevant to the job you're going for. Not sure if that helps but good luck with it.
