Totally understand the time constraints. I kind of had no choice at the time, nobody was hiring me so I had all the time in the world. Does your currrent job have any opportunities to do extra training or move up into something else?

I did a lot of unpaid work experience, which in hindsight I was probably taken advantage of, but I stayed long enough that when I went to leave they offered me a job. Then someone from there who'd moved on mentioned me to their boss, and I was offered a full-time role. The only thing I’d change is calling the work experience place’s bluff earlier. While I don’t necessarily think volunteer work adds much to a resume, it can help make connections. 🙂

Getting a foot in the door seems harder than ever. I thought it was hard when I was in my teens, now im watching my teens/young adults struggle to even get an interview - and they are hard little workers at home, it's not like they have nothing going for them. 🤔

It feels tough to start out with. Volunteering is one way, or if you're changing roles it can help to pick up something else in the same business and then cross train/get time to help out and grab experienve that way

More than a little unfair Olivia. Best advice is to really talk up your skills and don't be afraid to refer to experience you've picked up that's not in a paying job. Mightn't work every time but hopefully an employer will be more impressed by what you can do than what you have done.
