After having no issues finding work in the past, I’m struggling this time. I left my last role in Dec 2024 to prioritise completing my final year of a double degree and graduating on time, which I did in Nov. I’ve applied for 40+ roles here since with only default rejections. I’ve reworked my resume and cover letters multiple times, so I’m wondering if the employment gap is the issue. I’m applying for roles I already have experience in to ease back into work before moving into graduate roles.

Most of us have had a break at some point Bethany...And not always for as good a reason as completing a double degree (congrats btw).
As an employer myself, if someone clearly explains why there's a bit of a gap and why they're keen on my job, I wouldn't have an issue. Is that something you spell out in your cover letter?

We've unfortunately been replaced by the cheap immigrant labour force imported by this government.
I find myself in the same situation, well educated, ample experience in multiple industries but can't even get a Storeman job.
Unbelievable !!!

Hey,
I would explain the gap and mention all the skills you’ve learnt in uni and why you prioritised that, and that now you’re ready to get back into work!
(if you haven’t already).
Going in person normally helps me, I usually don’t hear anything back when I apply online either.
Good luck!

Are the roles you're going for entry-level, for new graduates? Just wondering if your experience lines up with what you are applying for, or if, while you're looking is a short internship a possibility?

I saw a seek post last year where they said just explain the gap and no one cares. Finishing a degree is a pretty good reason to be out of the workforce

It sounds like you're doing all the right things. Do you think it might be a resume gap issue? I know that is unfair given you've been studying which is a lot of work, but maybe its not clear enough when employers are looking through it? Just a thought 🙏
