Dear employers, PLEASE tell us what you want. It feels like no one even reads resumes. I’m trying every strategy, every template.... it still goes nowhere. Is it really this hard now? What do you want to see? Because I’m tired and lost.

Yeah...job hunting right now is exhausting! Especially when it feels like no one’s even looking at your resume. it’s not just you, employers wanna see your skills and what you’ve actually done, so a bit of tailoring can go a long way. Hang in there, don’t give up!

this frustration is totally relatable... i found myself with too many versions of my resume... it doesnt work this way before because at least more employers bothered to set a call before they even reject you......

I’m extremely experienced, over 20yrs working in corporate and with the general public in varied roles. Made redundant in March, applied 100+ applications, continue to get knocked back. I have had 4 interviews which all had 18-21 year olds alongside me going for same role. The reply “unfortunately you haven’t been chosen, though we are extremely impressed with your skills/work history”. I’m at a loss, how I am to go forward. Now starting to wonder if it is my age they are not interested in.

MOST JOBS ON SEEK ARE FAKE, THEY ARE POSTED TO FULFIL JOB CHECK. HOW ON EARTH IS A MASTER'S DEGREE IN CIVIL ENGINEERING WITH 13YRS EXPERIENCE NOT QUALIFIED FOR A SITE SUPERVISOR ROLE. MISS ME WITH OVER QUALIFICATION, IF THE APPLICANT WANTS IT, WHY NOT ALLOW HIM TO DO IT. I HAVE GIVEN UP ON SEEK

Employers want to see the result of your actions. Whether you have gone above and beyond. Don’t just list out your duties, it just says you’re doing your job. Add a bit of personality to your personal summary. Reach out to your network and attend industry networking events. See if there is a professional group that you can be a member of, find a mentor, etc. go via a recommended agency recruiter or start as temp. Usually that’s how people get placed these days.Hope this helps

I might be old school but I get more from the cover letter than just getting a CV. Tell me why you want the job, why you’d be great for it and show me that you care about my role. What gets you excited to come to work and what motivates you. Doesn’t have to be war and peace but something short and simple is very appreciated.

This is so true. I have my fair share of frustrations. For over 3 years I've been job haunting yet nothing to show for it. It hurts. I try to do everything right yet it looks like its all in vain!

45 with a degree and over 25 yrs of experience. A few years ago I was applying for a new role and received 6 offers all on the same day!! Now I’ve been job hunting for almost 4 months after being made redundant and… one interview. One. And that company is actually still actively recruiting for that role months later! It’s nuts. For all the people moving to Sydney, now is NOT the time. And for all of those job hunting… I understand your frustration and pain. Chin up. Lippy on. And let’s do this!

Totally get your frustration. I did some recruitment not long ago and got hundreds of applications. Can't speak for other employers but I absolutely looked at every single one. The ones that stood out for me were the ones who'd written a really thoughtful cover letter that was specifically for the job we had. AI cover letters and general templates really do stand out (not in a good way) so I'd recommend avoiding those. Stick at it and something will come through.

They want known people. if they know you / you're a friend or friend of a friend, they will do their best to hire you no matter how unskilled you are, but if you're a stranger, they won't even give you a chance. I discovered that when I applied to a role that couldn't have a better applicant than me even if they searched for years and got the standard email that they have decided to go ahead with better applicants and did not even give me an interview
