as a teenager in australia it is so hard to find a job:,) we’re constantly getting ignored even by the people who say they are “constantly hiring” even the ones that say no experience needed. ive been applying to jobs left and right and im not getting a single response back. they say teenagers need to get a job from now to provide them in the future, im 17 and i am honestly so eager for a job but theres no luck. does anyone have any advice?

yeah, same thing here. I've been applying for a job since September, and I either get rejected or hear nothing back. Why is it this hard to get a job?

I've been applying for full time/near full time work since I finished school nearly 3 months ago, I even gave up and started going for the casual gigs, even then, I'm either not qualified (Even for a no-experience job), or ghosted.

Keep trying guys… you will get your time to shine and prove your stuff. I went for a warehouse job with a newly obtained forklift ticket and no experience. They asked why they should give me a go and I said I’m a fresh slate, with no bad habits or over confidence and I could be trained to do everything the way that company wants it done. I added that I just needed the opportunity to be able to start working on getting experience. We all start somewhere and you will get there.

My son has been trying so hard to get a job, he finally thought he was in luck. He had an interview with McDonalds, got the job, to the point the got his uniform size and everything...and then they ghosted him. It is a different world these days. They complain about how hard getting workers is, yet don't give them a chance.

Hey there. I moved from one town to another when I was 14 and I didn't have a parent who networked so I didn't have anyone who could be a reference. I got a certificate II in retail when I was about 19, but it didn't make much difference, until I volunteered for a bit so I had experience and references. Employers love cheap labour, even better if they don't have to train you too much! Volunteer for a little bit and get those references.

So sorry its so hard. Is there any kind of career events on locally you could go to? Maybe get some ideas for pathways into something solid.

I think you’re better off going old school when you’re young and calling up places you’re keen on or walking around with resumes in an area you’re happy to travel in, it shows initiative and that you’re actually keen to the employer and not just sitting at home pressing the apply button, and it’s much cheaper for the employer if you skip the job agencie and go straight to them so they’re more likely to put someone inexperienced on if they haven’t got to pay an agency on top of whatever the young

While it won't pay one way to build skills is through volunteering plus you also get a professional reference. Otherwise, If you play a sport you well, you can coach or referee - sometime those gigs pay. Or some seasonal jobs like lifeguarding and swimming instructing can be trained for/licenced at 17 and at 18 be employable (some can get hired at 17 - depends on the pool).
