I always redirect the question back to the I interview person and ask, what is the budget your company has for this role? If it’s not enough then simply say. I thank you for your time but I’m unavailable for your limited budget. Or if it’s an amount your happy with than your reply will be, yes I can work with that amount. Never ever give them an amount as an answer.
