I arrived in Australia about two months ago on a 482 visa, which is valid for two years. I have applied for several jobs but haven’t received any positive responses yet. Could this be because many employers prefer candidates who hold permanent residency?

I lived in Australia for 4 years on a student and 485 visa trying to get work without success. The main reason for this I believe is age and training. We were not trained in Australia. When you get trained you understand culture and skill expectations better. Without it you are flying blind. It is important to get at least a certificate IV qualification in whatever field is closely related to what you do/ want to do. My sons for instance got jobs after getting their certificates.

Hey Basil. It's hard to say for sure what might be the reason for the lack of response. The visa may come into it, but it also could just be that its very competitive right now.
Have you gone through the SEEK Pass verification? This can help make it super clear that you have those working rights, and saves employers a bit of time checking things off. ☺️
