I apply only for jobs I am 100% qualified for and experienced to do. Recently got a rejection email saying my skills “don’t align with the role” mind you the job title was the exact same as my current job title, and I answered all the criteria. I’ve had plenty of rejections but this one just irked me. Does it mean my application wasn’t even looked at by a human? What can I do to communicate that I am actually exactly qualified for a role?

This is happening to me also but the most heartbreaking thing is no one wants to communicate anymore or let you know where you stand you are in limbo.

It's so frustrating the reasons why you are not successful. I also feel I have age discrimination. I am 50 years old, with vast years of experience in many industries and professions. Although they prefer someone younger, with a Bachelor Degree and no working experience. It's also very discouraging, when you see, high volume applications. We are all trying our best.

Have you had this happen before or this was your first time? frustrating when you know you’re qualified but still get that kind of rejection. Sometimes it’s not about your experience at all... it could be the system picking up on wording. maybe try matching your CV phrasing a bit closer to the job ad next time to help it get seen?

A lot of people are applying for jobs. Some don’t really want the work but need to apply to continue to get Centrelink benefits. I was just speaking to My Manager who says they get around 200 applicants for a fairly straight forward role. I have had two interviews recently where I have all the industry experience and highly qualified. I have not heard back from the company, but they have read certified for the role. I believe mainly due to my age it makes it harder. Good luck.

Using my experience as a HR officer and also first 1st line recruitment as a Team Leader in a contact centre, I always have 70/30 rule where the applicant meet 70% of the JD while the 30% can be learnt. It’s best to use this rule.
